We all love to see a young beautiful dancer on stage, but please be aware that beauty does not make a good dancer and in my opinion it doesn't come in when choosing.
The most successful dancers are all over 30, they have entertainment experience, they have been dancing usually for a long time and are generally very good.
But remember, that being a good dancer, doesn't make a good entertainer.
The biggest complain clients have is: Dancer comes in, takes the money, dances and is off!
One hires a belly dancer to entertain, involve the audience and be sociable so be sure to check their entertainment attitude.
The more experienced a belly dancer is, the more you will have to pay. Most dancers have set fees, but try to negociate. It usually pays off.
The Internet: What a wonderful place! You can put anything on there and most people believe it.
Unfortunatly they are some (mind, very few) wannebe dancers out there.
They had 3 lessons and think they can dance (we have seen them on Britain's got Talent - Oh my god) they make up biographies and turn up in cheap costumes from e-bay. They are usually young and pretty, look so beautyful on the picture and think that is enough. Luckely they don't last very long.
Proper belly dancers are highly intellegent, well educated and have a wealth of knowledge about entertainment. They know how to make you feel at ease and have a professional, established reputation.
Search the internet under belly dancer and their name and look at every advertisment, for comments and testimonials.
Especially sites like TheBestof.co.uk. who research the business first, before they agree to take one on as a member.
Do remember though that belly dancing is a cutthroat business (they are women afterall) and some belly dancer will stop at nothing to discredit the competition.
